[ASK NATTY] 5 Tips to Knowing When to Spend on Trends
Dear Natty –
There are so many trends very season that I just can’t keep track. I’m always scared to buy something “trendy” because I worry that before I know it, it will be “SO last season”. How can I know where to spend my hard earned dollars?
Trend Terrified
Dear Terrified –
Don’t be! (Terrified that is…) It’s true that keeping up with fashion can be intimidating, given the industry’s habits of declaring things “IN” and then seemingly suddenly “OUT.” But here are a few tips for experimenting with trends in a way that won’t result in any pricey regrets.
[Click Below] For 5 key tips on knowing when to spend

1. Start Small: If you’re considering a trend that’s exceptionally daring or new to you (A tiny bandeau top? Studded heels? A transparent raincoat?) try an inexpensive version to get your toes wet. That way, if you don’t end up loving it – you won’t be out a fortune.

3. Pay Attention to Next Season: I’m not suggesting that you spend hours browsing Style.com’s complete runway coverage. But taking a peek at the next season’s top trends will help give you an idea of the direction of fashion.
4. Classics are Always in Style: It’s always worth investing a new black boot, leopard print belt or perfect pea coat. Sometimes an updated version of an old favorite is all you need to boost your seasonal style.
And above all…
5. Stay True to Yourself: No matter how “of-the-moment” a style may be, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you absolutely MUST own a wedge sneaker/booty shorts/leather pant. Find what trend appeals to you, and go for it. True style is always personal.
